Getting Involved With ISM!
Illini Student Musicals is a completely student-run RSO based at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. No one on our staff receives any payment from the club or the University for their work; we are a charity organization. We are also unaffiliated with the Krannert Center for Performing Arts, meaning anyone in the student body is able to be part of our shows, regardless of major. To become a member, all you have to do is participate! We produce a musical once a semester. For the fall production, rehearsals usually start in September with performances taking place in early November. For the spring production, rehearsals usually start in February with performances taking place in early April. For information on specific dates, please see ISM's Facebook page for details. Tech/Rehearsal Staff
If you are interested in being on staff for an upcoming production, please refer to this attached document for an outline of each position and its responsibilities. Staff interviews are held each semester for the upcoming show. If we do not fill all of the positions during the initial round of interviews, we will continue to hire staff on a rolling basis. We love to help people learn, so there is no experience required for many of our staff positions!
Orchestra Pit
Do you play an instrument? Pit is perfect for you! ISM hires a live pit every semester to play for the show and tech week rehearsals. Play piano? We also hire a rehearsal accompanist to join in on rehearsals throughout the semester as well!
Casting
We cast people of all different majors and experience levels, so don't let anything hold you back! The number and type of roles vary by show, but we strive to include everyone we can. We cast actors at the beginning of each semester for every show. Commitment levels vary depending on the role you receive, however, we hold rehearsals at least four times a week for the span of about two months leading up to the show date. Proposing a Show
Are you interested in Directing, Music Directing, Vocal Directing, or Choreographing a show with ISM? If so, consider proposing a show of your own choosing to be performed as our mainstage production! Please take a look at the example document outlining the show proposal process. Contact the secretary in order to obtain the official proposal form to submit your show. After you have submitted your proposal, the board will ask you to give a formal interview. If you have any additional questions about the show proposal process, please don't hesitate to ask!
